suggestion for new content ----- f***ing release some. bought this title months ago anticipating an evolved sim ant, and the playable game so far is solid- but how is it early access if what we are provided is never updated? to date no content at all has been added. I haven't had to update the game once. you can only play the same scenarios a few times before they become stale, even ramping up difficulty. I've started up empires of the undergrowth a few dozen times hoping for ANY new content, and have not had a single thing to do since I initially played it.

We're a very small team (3 devs, 1 social media guy). Sorry about that. If we rush, compromises are made. We're not willing to do that. Obviously we live in a world where people are used to multiple updates a week, but we don't have the resources behind PUBG.

All 3 of the devs are now full-time on the project. This was obviously a scary step for them to make - having to support families and suchlike. But they have taken that step, with the final team-member doing so a couple of weeks ago.

Done it.  Seems to occur when there's too many ants exiting and entering at one time (I have them going in and out in large numbers, causing some ants to randomly walk off to the left.

Thank you for your excellent research Rayalot; we're very grateful! John is now looking into the deeper causes of this and it's his next priority after saving.

As a little token of our appreciation - congrats on being the first member of this forum to join the "Extremely Helpful Person" group. For those who go beyond requested feedback and help us root out deep-seated issues beyond balance.

It's been suggested many times and we've been thinking about it for years - it creates several unique problems (such as being able to turtle in forever and upsetting the intended balance of a level) and we've not thought of a way to rebuild walls that we like. Not saying it'll never happen but it's not something we've found a good way of doing yet.

The game is definitely more CPU-intensive and as the amount of ants rises, so does the AI workload. Compared to a typical RTS the ants do a lot of thinking. For Freeplay, the issue of lots of creatures combined with a lot of food entities in play lead to a slowdown. We're working on optimising it.

GPU-wise the game isn't too demanding.

thank you for the reply.
I did read the forums here and at steam, so i already know of your small team and your progress.

It feels a bit like not being part of an early access - game if i dont have early access to the content. No offense, but maybe you should rethink releasing EA at GOG if you cant, or dont want to support it there. If I had known of your approach with making a beta of a beta, where the betabeta is only available at steam i would have bought the game there. As GOG-User i feel quite disadvantaged and more of a "backer" then part of an EA.

As i said... No offense... Things already happened and i am looking forward to the next release.

(Sorry for any grammars. English is not my native language.)

You will get all full early access releases at GOG - just not this freeplay beta. It's not going to be extended - basically as soon as John gets the save system working we'll be making it general and updating all store fronts.

Through no fault of its own GOG is unlikely to get the beta. Our dev team size is 3 and we need to concentrate resources to get things done in a timely fashion.

John is well into working on the save system, and after that he has a few issues to address before Freeplay goes to all early access users.

1) Some work to be done there, clearly. Will see if I can reproduce that.

2) It sounds like at this point the pathing systems and everything get jammed - there's lots of optimizations we can do here in the future, but it is nice to see people pushing the limits of things.

3) You have a very similarly-specced system to my own. The bottleneck, I believe, is not graphical but CPU. Unlike a typical RTS where units are pretty much "go here, shoot this" levels the ants have a rather complex brain behind them. Again, optimizations to be done and we appreciate seeing the limits pushed.

4) As above. The 1000 ants is a consistent theme here!

5) Yep, have heard this one from several people. We'll be adjusting that.

6) As above...

Thanks for the reports. The stretching of the limits is actually really useful in seeing where we could do with making things more efficient!

i have the beta but this has happened just before the beta release

sooo some reason no matter what ants i mark to collect food the honeydew when night comes some reason ants no longer want to grab food devil's coach horse and crab corpses no problem just the honeydew they have problem getting they will walk to the honeydew then get confused and walk back to the colony by the doors inside and back out


honeydew is visable at night and there is plenty of it i did wait till next morning and nothing

The aphids stop producing honeydew at night-time. This isn't communicated clearly but that's the issue here.

This is a rare occurrence, we've seen it before but we don't get many reports of it at all so haven't been able to see what's wrong. Can you give me any information on what you're doing when this happens, your system specs, etc
