Army Ants vs Mantis battle! I hope that in the next levels all enemies realistically fight each other for the most part, mainly for watching cool battles but maybe for scavenging.

I hope once enemy colonies are added in the future, we can play with them in free play mode. It would be fun just to mess around with them and steal some brood, and it would be challenging to survive.

One species of ant that would fit in this environment are green tree ants. Their colonies are known for having medic ants that heal the wounded. and can build fortresses out of leaves.

This rainforest with leaf cutters, trapjaws, and army ants is in Ecuador. Green tree ants are native to Asian rainforests and Australia I believe.

Leaf cutters ants will have the role of being a tank in the formicarium, not production (of food, I'm assuming is what you meant).

Black ants are currently used as tanks for other ants (wood ants) only because there is no other choice of melee unit. The role of black ants currently is melee attacker (maybe even damage dealer). The role of wood ants is ranged attacker/damage dealer.

The great thing about this game is by default ants will have all of these roles, but it is really up to the player on what game-changing upgrades to give the ants and how to use them. I believe black ants are meant to be a simple to use, versatile unit. Unlike melee wood ants, which are straight up tanks with very little damage, black ants do high damage and, especially with upgrades, get high health as well. That is why I believe the role of melee attacker is more fitting, rather than tank. The game, too, catogorizes black ants with red melee icon, while the only ants with the blue tank icon is the melee wood ant.

Whoa! I was not expecting another completely different ant species! I suppose they are native to the rainforests of Ecuador, though. It should be interesting to face an enemy colony with a mobile queen that can send waves out at you and kill everything in their way. Also, is the darker colored worker the larger one? And I'm guessing there is a soldier caste that has not been revealed.

Also having sea food spawn when the tide goes in and out would be nice. It would give some motive to actually go down to the low levels of the beach and fight to control those areas.

I think the rufa are meant to be as powerful as they are. They should be more powerful than fusca, and they are also real life predators of fusca ants. I'm guessing the leaf cutter ants would be able to tear apart a rufa colony the same way a rufa colony can tear apart a fusca colony. I'm not saying there is a huge balance difference, though, I'm sure in multiplayer, for example, a more skilled fusca player could beat someone playing as rufa.

Was just playing on towhead, I noticed that this glitch happens in the alternative nest locations, even when my nest is not there.

The black glitchy shapes aren't always in that exact position, they change shape if the camera moves, and more of them than how many are in the image can appear to the point where it is hard to even see the nest entrance holes. They disapear if the camera zooms out.
