This is really making me pray my computer can handle all of that foliage. It looks too good.

Lowering their stats significantly would make the game more realistic no doubt, but then they would not be strong enough for their large cost of 60 food in my opinion, plus it would introduce other balance issues. I don't think they are necessarily game breaking, I still enjoy using them and winning 2.1 and 2.2 is not easy, and it will become harder when beach tiger larvae are introduced. As you probably know, most often times in rts games the long ranged unit is the primary damage dealer, and EotU is probably not going to be an exception. Maybe you might argue it is game breaking in free play mode where a mass of level 3 shooters destroys the whole map, but I think that is a problem with free play mode itself. Personally, for the game's sake, I feel they fit their role and while they may not be perfect, they fit the overall balance of units (how balanced the unit is compared to enemies and other units) the devs intend for the finished game.

Can we harvest leaves from the majority of those plants or only specific ones in certain locations?

The water looks amazing and it really does feel like a rainforest.

For those who donated a certain amount to the Kickstarter, posters were one of the rewards.

Awesome! I also hope there will be more ant hill variations. Maybe a different mound per ant species or by biome. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the next newsletter!

I wouldn't say the game is cheap, nor that it is complete and worth its value yet, but the devs need the money to continue developing more content at a high quality. Once it is fully released, $20 will be a good price.

General Discussion / Re: Leaf Cutter Ant Caste Question
« on: September 18, 2018, 09:30:31 PM »
There are four different worker castes the devs are already working on, with similar roles you mentioned. Not sure if we will have minim or minor ants on the backs of our majors to defend them, but it would be cool. There are minims, which grow the fungus, minors, which can help defend the colony (but are weak), and they can dig and take care of the brood. Media ants can harvest leaves and are the colony's primary damage dealer. Lastly there is the major, which is huge compared to the rest, and it can harvest leaves, do the highest damage, and has the health pool of a tank.

Some new chambers are the leaf drop off chamber, which is the chamber where ants will drop of leaves to be processed. And there is the refuse chamber, which is where the ants deposit waste emitted by the fungus gardens. If the waste is not cleaned up and put in the waste chamber, the fungus will get diseased.

I'll see how it goes, but I'm guessing we can just ignore this feature and everything will still be beatable?

That may be, but there was only one pheromone group of 19 minor ants. Apparently a certain amount of minims spawn for every other minor, media, or major tile built.

We're getting 19 minors and probably even more than 19 minims with the queen. From the gameplay video one can clearly see the queens chamber is 19 tiles and there is one chamber group of ants in a pheromone marker that was 19 minors.

General Discussion / Re: Higher Difficulty?

It's possible to beat 2.2 on hard with level 3 mortars. I have not tried either 2.1 or 2.2 on insane yet. After tremendous studying of your guide and Balanites guide, I was able to beat 1.1 and 1.2 with challenge mode on insane. One of the key factors is if you're going for smaller amounts of level 3 ants, which means you get more food but less power, or all level one ants, which deal out tons of damage but waste tons of food. I believe beating 2.1 on insane definetly requires the numbers, but a way to beat 2.2 on insane might be a combination of level threes and level ones. If you make your chambers of mortars in perfect hexagons of 19, there will be an inner 7 tiles. Upgrading only four of those inner tiles will make sure you do not spend too much food on upgrades, allowing you to spend on numbers but also getting some splash damage.

Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Ways to Improve Formica fusca
« on: September 09, 2018, 01:35:33 AM »
I agree, I feel they are meant to be a simple species for the player to learn the game's basics. Basically nothing is known about multiplayer. We don't even know whether it will be different species against each other in multiplayer, it could just be formica ereptor vs formica ereptor.

I'm hoping the player does get to choose their species in multiplayer, though.
Honestly I think it would be pretty cool if some species would have advantages over others in certain maps. I think it's pretty safe to say leaf cutter ants, for example, will be much stronger than Formica fusca. But if there would be a map that is bountiful with aphids that leaf cutter ants can't harvest, and very few leaves, the power of the leaf cutter ants could be balanced out with the fact that they have much less food than Formica fusca.

I'm hoping there will be some maps that favor certain species due to the environment, like leaf cutter ants should have a clear advantage over wood ants in a rainforest, and the opposite on the beach. I also think having some maps that are as close to perfectly balanced as possible are also a good idea to have. This will allow players to adapt in some situations, but also go head-to-head without having to worry about disadvantages in other situations.
