Suggestions & Feedback / Re: mushroom farming

Maybe we could choose like for wood ants we did can choose between mortars and rapid fire and for atta we would have to choose between majors or fungus ?

Upkeep would require a whole mechanics redesign.  (I would like to see it happened of course but realistically the mechanics are already viced in.)  For one, what happens when there is no food, do the ants starve slowly, do brood still hatch?  Will you still spend food on tiles?  Why do I need to spend food for a storage space?  Also what happens if my brood takes up all the food hatching?  Should we be able to kill or freeze the hatching without destroying tiles?  How will the AI balance this?  Upkeep may make certain missions and challenges impossible requiring a complete redesign.

Honestly I hate the hard cap, and current food system and would prefer something closer to what Empire of the Ants (2000) had.

Can we start a Formicarium with a pure Atta colony instead then? This should be easily doable, right? (And yes, I know the dialogue probably woudn't fit because they're talking of ereptors but honestly I don't think most people would care about that)

Not at all straightforward. As always, never say never, but it's a lot more involved than just having the wrong voice lines play.

That seems like a good suggestion for 2.1 or 2.2 challenge mode.

Being able to collect new species to create a formicarium with would be amazing. All it would take would be a way to unlock a certain species, then once unlocked have the option to use it when making a new formicarium.

Maybe by beating 2.1 and 2.2 + formicarium challenge 2 on hard difficulty, the player could unlock a wood ant colony formicarium, or 3.1 and 3.2 + formicarium challenge 3 on hard to unlock leafcutter colony formicarium.

The current plan is no - the formicarium colony won't grow fungus - but they will get the Atta cephalotes Majors to add to their colony as tanky, powerful fighters.

The Intel HD graphics won't help, but I think Matt has spoken about this before. We use Unreal Engine 4 for EotU, which lets us produce some pretty amazing graphical effects relatively quickly and efficiently. Some small shadowing issues are a consequence of using what is intended to be an FPS engine for a RTS top-down game.

General Discussion / Re: Screen Shot Saturday - Tiny Minims

So minims are just aesthetic...? Yes, they have an important role in growing the fungus but they are completely uncontrollable and their job in the game is to make the growing of fungus more realistic looking? If that's true, I'm still happy we have them to look at, it'll make the colony seem more alive.

They certainly will make the place feel more alive, but they still have tasks to do - it's them that will be the final stage in the production line to get the harvested leaves turned into fungus. Their numbers are tied to the number of nursery chambers and their inhabitants.

Interesting.  Can they be killed?  I also assume we can't put them in pheromones.
