Hello from South Africa

normal post 237 3
A quick look tells me I'm probably the first from my country on this forum, so - Goeie dag!  I had a nostalgic yearning for SimAnt today and thought I'll take a look and see if it has been remade or if there is anything similar out there... low and behold I stumbled across this game and 2 minutes later I was busy downloading it after I bought it!  I look forward to see how it will develop and will try to keep my playing to a minimum so that I don't overdo it and so that I can appreciate all new content to its fullest.

Welcome Cloda! I hope we can live up to your expectations - we didn't play SimAnt until after we'd started work on the project, so we're not directly inspired by it (Dungeon Keeper was our primary influence) but it definitely informed our ideas of what an ant game should be.

Cloda if you want to see the game being developed than go over to twitch. ;D

Welcome Cloda! I hope we can live up to your expectations - we didn't play SimAnt until after we'd started work on the project, so we're not directly inspired by it (Dungeon Keeper was our primary influence) but it definitely informed our ideas of what an ant game should be.

I'm a Conservation biologist by training but not specialising on ants or any other insects or arachnids - landscape ecology, birds and pollination is more my thing and I have always had a special interest in animal behaviour and what is driving this behaviour.  This kind of game is right up my alley then  ;)

Luckily for me, I am also a huge fan of Dungeon Keeper (mostly played 2) and can already see the positive influence on this game.  One of my favourite DK spells was the possession spell, which allowed you to take over the mind and control any of your creatures directly and see the world from their eyes.  This is pretty much what you did all the time in SimAnt by controlling an individual ant and I loved e.g. the ability to get other ants to follow you by laying a pheromone trail or to get another ant to regurgitate food to feed you.  Anyways, that won't be necessary for this game to make it an success but it would certainly be a really exciting addition if something similar can be incorporated.  This also opens up the possibility to have game modes / scenarios where you control a Bullet ant, massive 2cm ants found in the Amazon that although they live in small colonies, often move around by themselves and are ferocious hunters with a serious sting.

I'm pretty excited for this game and will certainly follow it closely so thanks Redmoth27 for the twitch suggestion.
